Introducing Brightspace

Project Timeline

Last updated 3/21/24
Month 1

February

The project kicks off. Several discovery sessions take place and initial working sessions to populate Brightspace with AU courses, and faculty and student information. Brightspace guided administrator training is ongoing and expected to be completed at the end of February. A review of existing Moodle courses to potentially use for migrations is underway.

March

Working sessions for single sign-on, branding and UI, and email configuration of Brightspace are ongoing. These sessions provide the configuration needed for early sandbox access for some faculty. Using the information collected in February, course migration testing begins in late March, along with initial discussions for faculty training.

Month 3

April

An introductory webinar kicks off training on April 5 with additional training to follow during the next few months. Sandbox access is available to some faculty in early April and the web-based guided training can be referenced while reviewing the sandbox course. Working sessions with D2L continue, covering course management, grading and assessments, and learning object repository. Migration process testing continues with a focus on identifying similar tools and functions Moodle may have provided.

May

Courses from Moodle begin to migrate to Brightspace but summer 2024 courses do not migrate until August. Student success and data-related consulting from D2L begins. D2L, ITS, and some faculty continue testing Brightspace courses before fall 2024 courses become fully available. Additional communication and guided documentation is available for faculty.

Month 5

June

Fall 2024 courses are available for faculty to modify in Brightspace. More training options become available for faculty, in addition to the guided training. "Getting started" materials for students starts to become available.

July

Course migrations and training options continue. ITS makes adjustments to any Brightspace courses as needed while courses are being worked on.

Month 7

August

Training options continue in August and training documentation becomes available. All fall 2024 classes are accessible in Brightspace. Moodle access remains available as a reference for faculty and temporarily for some non-academic courses.
